If you answered yes to any of these questions, we encourage you to consider applying to become a member of the ACLD, Inc. Board of Directors!

ABOUT US

Founded in 1972, the ACLD Tillotson School, operated by ACLD, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving students aged 5 to 21 across a seven-county region in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. Our school provides highly specialized, individualized programs to support students with complex learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders—helping them thrive beyond the limitations of traditional classrooms.

WHY JOIN OUR BOARD?

Serving on our Board is an opportunity to:

  • Champion educational equity for students with disabilities.

  • Collaborate with a diverse group of professionals dedicated to student success.

  • Gain invaluable leadership experience while making a tangible difference in your community.

  • Build meaningful connections with students, families, and fellow board members.

You don’t need to be an expert in education or nonprofit governance to contribute meaningfully. If you bring passion, dedication, and a willingness to learn, we want to hear from you!

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We welcome applicants from various backgrounds and experiences. While we are particularly interested in individuals with expertise in the following areas, these are not required:

  • Fundraising/Development

  • Public Relations/Media

  • Communications

  • Education

  • Legal
     

If you have a different skill set but share our commitment to empowering students, don’t hesitate to apply! Fresh perspectives are invaluable to our mission.

BOARD MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the Board, you will:

  • Promote and advocate for the organization’s mission.

  • Serve as an ambassador for the school, its students, and their families.

  • Contribute to strategic planning and organizational development.

  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of new Board members.

  • Offer guidance to and evaluate the Chief Executive Officer.

  • Provide financial oversight to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainable growth.

  • Uphold legal and ethical integrity while holding the organization accountable.

Time Commitment

  • Attend six bimonthly meetings annually (virtually and/or in person).

  • Participate in school events and fundraising initiatives.

  • Make an annual contribution in support of the school’s mission.
